Email marketing remains one of the most powerful ways to reach and convert customers. But if you’re short on time (and who isn’t?), it can feel overwhelming. That’s where ClickFunnels comes in. With its built-in email marketing features, you can create and launch a high-converting campaign in 30 minutes or less—no coding or advanced tech skills required.
In this post, we’ll walk through a quick, step-by-step process for getting your first email marketing campaign up and running with ClickFunnels.
Email is a direct line of communication to your audience. When people opt into your list, they’re giving you permission to show up in their inbox—a place they check daily. A well-structured email campaign can help you:
- Nurture leads who aren’t ready to buy immediately.
- Promote offers to an engaged list.
- Build brand trust by sharing valuable insights.
If you’re using ClickFunnels for your funnels and sales pages, you already have a powerful tool at your disposal for automating emails and tracking results.
Before sending emails, you need to capture email addresses. That starts with a lead funnel—a dedicated page offering a free resource (like a PDF guide or mini-course) in exchange for a visitor’s email.
- Pick a Template: In ClickFunnels, choose a Lead Funnel template that aligns with your branding.
- Customize: Add your headline, description, and a clear CTA (e.g., “Get My Free Ebook”). Keep it simple.
- Set Up the Thank You Page: After someone opts in, direct them to a thank you page that either delivers the resource or sets the expectation (e.g., “Check your inbox for the link!”).
ClickFunnels has a built-in email marketing feature called Workflows. This is where you’ll:
- Create automated email sequences.
- Send one-off broadcasts.
- Segment your audience.
Goal: Familiarize yourself with workflows. They can be SUPER deep and complex but usually what you need is pretty intuitive and straightforward.
Your first automated email should welcome new subscribers, deliver the promised resource, and set the tone for future emails.
- Welcome & Deliver: Greet subscribers by name and provide a direct link to the free resource they opted in for.
- Introduce Yourself: Share a brief intro about who you are and what they can expect.
- Set Expectations: Let them know you’ll be sending more valuable tips or offers soon.
A single welcome email is good, but a mini-sequence of 2-3 additional emails is better for nurturing new leads. Russel Brunson from Clickfunnels has done an incredible job teaching people about the "Soap Opera Sequence", aimed build trust and emotional connection, and the "Seinfeld Sequence" which is a method to keep your audience warm/engaged. He teaches these in his fabulous One Funnel Away Challenge that I have done twice and TOTALLY recommend to everyone that's serious about online business.
However, because I don't want to regurgitate information that is readily available on the internet. Here is a 4 email sequence that I have used several times with incredible success. Since we've already written email one. Here are suggested key points for emails two. three, and four.
Email 2: The Value Bomb
- Subject Line: One Quick Tip to... Solve Their Pain Point
- Content: Provide a quick tip or mini-case study that offers immediate value. Keep it short and actionable.
- CTA: Invite them to read more on your blog or check out a related free resource.
Email 3: The Trust Builder
- Subject Line: Why Your Business Is Different (Help them better understand your unique value proposition)
- Content: Share a personal story, testimonial, or behind-the-scenes look at your process. Focus on building trust.
- CTA: Encourage them to reply with their biggest challenge or schedule a call if they’re ready.
Email 4: The Offer or Soft Pitch
- Subject Line: Ready to Take the Next Step?
- Content: Mention the service or product you offer. Emphasize how it solves their problem.
- CTA: Invite them to book a consult call or view a sales page.
Within Follow-Up Funnels, schedule your emails:
- Welcome Email: Send immediately after they subscribe.
- Email 2: 1 day later.
- Email 3: 2 days later.
- Email 4: 3 days later.
Adjust the timing to suit your audience’s preferences. Some business owners space them out over a week, while others send daily. I usually recommend every day sends for your first short sequence as a trust building/onboarding type of experience; a welcome to your world if you will. After that, I usually cool emails off to 1-2 per week to keep the audience warm but not fatigued.
Finally, always test your funnel and email sequence. Subscribe to your own list to:
- Check Deliverability: Make sure the emails land in the inbox, not spam. (If you'd like to learn the necessary basics of email deliverability. Email me at michael@getmainstreetmarketing.com ! I made a really fun, succinct, and info-rich video on this very topic!)
- Review Layout: Confirm formatting and links work on desktop and mobile.
- Tweak Subject Lines: High open rates often come from compelling subject lines. Experiment to see what resonates.
- Use a Personal Sender Name: Emails from a real person (rather than a business name) often have higher open rates. Make sure it's not your "info@" or other transactional business email that's sending this automated sequence.
- User Personalization Tokens: ClickFunnels has the ability to add stuff like {First Name} to your marketing emails; giving them that extra personal touch.
- Include an Unsubscribe Link: ClickFunnels handles this automatically, but double-check for compliance. Make sure it is working and that the experience is what you want it to be when the link is clicked. Again, unsubscribe link is an absolute compliance must!
- Keep a Consistent Tone: Whether it’s fun and friendly or professional and concise, stick to one voice.
With ClickFunnels’ built-in email marketing features, you don’t need a separate platform or complex integrations to start nurturing your leads. By following these steps, you’ll have a high-converting email campaign up and running in 30 minutes or less.
